The World Economic Forum launches it’s Third Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report (2008 – 2009)
The World Economic Forum (WEF) announced on March 4th 2009 the launch of the Travel and Tourism (T&T) Competitiveness Report, entitled "Managing in a Time of Turbulence." The report, released for the 3rd year consistently, is based on the Travel and Tourism (T&T) Competitiveness Index which ranks countries according to the performance of their T&T sector. According to the report, Egypt 's rank has been improved from 66th out of 130 countries in 2008 to 64th out of 134 countries in 2009. This can be attributed to the improvement of Egypt 's rank in the T&T business environment and infrastructure sub-index from 69th to 65th, and in the T&T regulatory framework sub-index from 58th to 52nd. Egypt placed the 9th in the MENA region.
The ENCC contributed a chapter on the Egyptian Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Council (T&TCC) within the report. The T&TCC was established in May 2008 as the first national council specialized in the T&T sector in Egypt. It aims at monitoring and enhancing the efforts exerted to improve the competitiveness of the Egyptian T&T sector. The contributed chapter includes the T&TCC’s action plan which focuses on: human resource development, institution and capacity building for industry advocacy, environmental sustainability.
